Fortunately, our financing options make it easier than ever to achieve a healthy smile. Let’s take a closer look at what goes into determining the total cost of treatment and how we can help you get the results you want without breaking the bank! Keep reading to learn more.
What factors go into deciding the total cost of treatment?
There’s no “one size fits all” fee for braces or clear aligners, so the exact cost will vary from case to case. Every smile is unique, and several factors go into helping us calculate the total amount required for treatment. These include:
- the type of orthodontic appliance being used
- whether the patient is a child or an adult
- how simple or complex the case is
- the estimated treatment time
- dental insurance that will cover orthodontic treatment
- the orthodontist providing treatment
- where the chosen orthodontist is located
The treatment fees at our practice also reflect the training and skills our doctors possess, as well as the knowledge of our team and the state-of-the-art technology we use. This allows us to provide every patient with world-class care and exceptional results!
There’s a lot that goes into the total cost of treatment, which is why your first stop should always be an orthodontic evaluation. This complimentary consultation includes a discussion of everything included in your customized treatment plan, along with the investment needed for your new smile. In the meantime, let’s explore what treatment normally includes and how much the average cost tends to be. We’ll also take a look at what payment options we have available.
What does treatment include?
We value the trust our patients place in us. It’s important to us that you never feel like we’re being anything less than transparent about your treatment fees. We don’t like unexpected financial surprises anymore than you do, so we’ll ensure you understand everything included in your treatment plan before we begin! The total cost of treatment will typically cover everything you need to achieve and maintain a straighter smile, such as:
- all appointments, including emergency visits
- braces, clear aligners, or other orthodontic appliances
- a post-treatment retainer
- follow-up visits
- an oral hygiene starter pack
What is the average cost of treatment?
As we’ve already mentioned, there are a number of factors that must be taken into consideration when calculating the exact cost of any treatment plan. Because every patient has their own specific needs and will respond to treatment in their own way, the total cost of treatment will vary from case to case. We can give you a look at the average costs, however!
In general, braces treatment for a child can cost anywhere from $3-7K, while adult braces will usually run about $5-8K in total. Clear braces and clear aligners will typically be a bit more expensive than traditional metal braces. Remember that these are only averages! The total treatment cost for you will depend on your specific needs and the various factors we’ve already outlined.
Can dental insurance be used to pay for orthodontic treatment?
If you have a dental insurance plan that will help cover your orthodontic treatment, it can bring the personal cost to you down significantly. Like most insurance policies, coverage rules for dental care can often be confusing! Once you’ve received a diagnosis and treatment plan, we recommend checking with your provider to see what they will (and will not) cover in the way of orthodontic treatment. Our team is happy to go over your policy with you to help maximize your benefits.
Please note that your customized treatment plan will be based on your specific needs and the professional judgment of our doctors. They will not recommend treatment based on whether or not that option is covered by insurance; you will instead be presented with a plan that best addresses your particular case.
Co-payments or out-of-pocket expenses will be estimated before treatment begins. Once it is complete and all insurance payments are received, we’ll reconcile the account. You will be responsible for any underpayment at that point.
If insurance doesn’t cover orthodontics, can the cost be deducted?
If braces are deemed to be medically necessary, the dental health care costs associated with them can sometimes be tax-deductible. However, that cost generally has to exceed a certain amount before any deductions would kick in. You should keep track of all expenses associated with your braces treatment if you want to deduct the costs. This includes any co-pays and check-up visits.

The benefits of orthodontic treatment go beyond the cosmetic appearance of your smile. Good oral health will also improve your total body health! Orthodontic treatment can help reduce or eliminate these symptoms, leaving you with a smile that looks and feels amazing!
